I was given an Elm sapling at school in 1969 to help fight the Dutch Elm disease in Connecticut. I’ve watched the tree grow to six stories over 50 years and have become a lifelong fan of all trees – their growth and shape and grain. I purchase whole logs, whole burls and cookie cuts. I work only with live edge pieces and focus on highlighting the beauty of the edge, the grain, and natural color. I use many different finishes including shellac, marine polys for benches and combinations of beeswax and oils for food safe serving boards. I work with a local blacksmith on legs, handles, brass inlays and monogrammed nameplates. Most of my pieces combine wood and metal.
