About Our Scholarship Program
Since founding our guild in 1998 members have supported young men and women planning to become professional woodworkers. To that end we have established a scholarship fund supported by generous financial donations and by the proceeds from our annual auction to which guild members donate a variety of beautiful wooden objects. As our reputation has grown, our recipients have attended some of the best woodworking schools in the country. Some examples are the North Bennet Street School in Boston, the Furniture Institute of Massachusetts in Beverley, the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, Maine, and the Krenov School in Fort Bragg, California. We ask scholarship winners to visit our annual July show, meet the guild members, and display some of their work.
We seek applicants between 16 and 30 years of age who exhibit a strong, demonstrable determination to become professional woodworkers.
Preference is given to applicants with a connection to Berkshire County, Massachusetts or to the neighboring region.
We will read applications beginning in early May. Winners will be notified by early July.
Feel free to submit photographs of your work with you application.
Maximum scholarship amount is $1,500.
The award is made after the applicant provides proof of enrollment in an approved program.
Scholarships may be used to attend schools, conferences, classes, workshops and other events that meet the approval of the Guild’s scholarship review committee. In general, any program that contributes to the education of the applicant in the area of woodworking will qualify. Preference is given for long-term, continuous programs that lead to certification or a degree in the profession.
Scholarship awards must be used within a year of the date they are awarded.
Application deadline is May 15th.
